We approached Blair Hill Inn from the long upward drive and
looked over our shoulders at the view as the sun began to set on the brilliant Indian summer day in mid-September. Looking at each other, we hoped there was a room for our unplanned arrival. Greeted at the door by Ruth and Olive, we learned that Room 6 was available. Ruth kindly led us to the upper floor of the Inn where we entered a sun-strewn yellow room with a bed that looked like a cloud. We did not hesitate to gather our things from the car, wash after our long drive, and sit together on the white wicker adorned porch with a crisp glass of Sauvignon Blanc. The sun set over the mountains, casting its glow and various colors over Moosehead Lake. The American flag flew from the porch in the foreground and we took our first full deep breath of the day.
